A wind battered tree can survive a storm But when the rot comes from within, Built up strength provides no protection. There is a paralyzing effect When your assailant exists inside oneself. Your very survival dependent on the enemy. How does one fight the source of their strength, How can you hide from the essence of your being. Glimmers of lucidity provide momentary respites. These fleeting moments allow for sanctuary in loving companions. This is just a lull in the tempest.
Strength is not a good descriptor
For someone as broken as I,
But every day I get out of bed:
Work,
Eat,
Smile,
Endure
Inconceivable strength can be found in the routine repetition of survival.
There's a comfort in all the actions we do;
The coffee's aroma more vibrant,
Mundane topics excite our morning.
I wish I could tell the boy in the man
That it all will change
And comfort and safety
Will become an everyday occurrence.
